Hello, I’m Attorney Terry Cummings—a retired U.S. Department of Justice official, longtime South Cobb resident, and your State Representative for House District 39.
Serving you is a responsibility I take seriously.
Mableton is a young city with tremendous potential. I’m committed to building a stronger future for our community by focusing on what matters most to our families: safe neighborhoods, affordable housing, support for homeowners and seniors, and strong public schools.
My experience as an attorney and former Justice Department official taught me the importance of fairness, accountability, and standing up for people. Those principles guide my work at the State Capitol every day.
My commitment is simple: listen to you, work for you, and put the people of District 39 first.

Voting is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution. Today, our democracy remains under attack by Republicans who are doing everything to undermine future election results, including reducing early voting locations and other efforts to discourage voters. More disturbing is the practice of cracking; the discriminatory practice splitting communities into multiple districts to reduce their voting power. As your next representative, I will fight to ensure every eligible voter has fair access to the ballot.

Health Care is a right, not a privilege. Georgia is one of 12 states in our country that has not expanded Medicaid. If COVID has taught us nothing else, it shows that the lack of affordable healthcare can have devastating and long-term effects on families and businesses. The high cost and availability of certain medications, driven by pharmaceutical companies, often force seniors and middle and low-income families to make difficult decisions on how to maintain their health. Additionally, women have the right to choose their health care options without interference from our government. As your next Representative, I will diligently work to expand Medicare for all Georgians, require adequate caps on costly medications and therapies, and work on passage of the Reproductive Justice Act to restore abortion options for women.

I’m a product of public schools and my sister has been a public-school teacher for over 30 years. I understand the importance of a quality education that ensures each child has an opportunity to pursue their full potential as students and future leaders. This includes providing options for parents. As your next State House Representative, I will partner with parents and teachers to empower our educational leaders with the support, tools, and trust they need to maintain Cobb’s long tradition of excellence in education. I will work with stakeholders at the state level to ensure our leadership not only receives the support they need, but they are held accountable for clear expectations and needed improvements.

I will vigorously fight to return to common-sense gun control laws which just got harder thanks to the “Constitutional Carry” law signed by Kemp in April. This new law allows residents to carry concealed handguns in public without a license or background check. As a retired federal law enforcement officer, I understand that citizens have a right to responsible gun ownership, but citizens also have the right to not live in fear of gun violence everywhere they turn. As your next representative, I will work to ensure guns do not fall in the hands of violent felons, individuals convicted of domestic abuse, and those with a history of serious mental health issues.
